Simple dinners, one pan, and a sink that stays empty

Mike Cooks for Seniors

Large Print Edition

Sausage, peppers and onions roasted on one small sheet pan, with a slice of bread and a fork on a wooden table

Recipe 1 · Sausage, Peppers & Onions · 25 minutes

Sound familiar?

“Every recipe in the world seems written for a family of four.”

The leftovers pile up

You eat the same casserole for five nights — or throw half of it out.

Food spoils first

Half of everything goes bad before you get to it. Money in the trash.

Some nights, why bother?

The dishes are the hard part. Toast and tea starts to feel easier.

Mike spent his whole working life in big, loud restaurant kitchens. What those years taught him: cooking was never the hard part. It's standing at the sink afterwards, worn out, looking at everything that still has to be washed. This book is his answer.

Why this book is different

Written for your kitchen, not a family of four

Every recipe serves one

No dividing by four, no week of leftovers. Cooking for two tonight? Double it. That’s all.

One pan or one pot

Most dinners happen on a single small sheet pan, pot or skillet. Less scrubbing, less standing.

Under 30 minutes

Most recipes are on the table in half an hour — some in eight minutes flat.

Mike’s swaps on every page

No cod? Any white fish. No fresh pepper? Frozen. Never drive to the store for one ingredient.

Freezer & pantry friendly

Frozen vegetables, canned beans, rotisserie chicken, cheap cuts — the smart shortcuts, used on purpose.

Large print you can print

Big, clear type. Print a copy for your kitchen, spill on it, write in the margins.

What's inside

Nine chapters. 100 dinners, breakfasts & soups.

The dinners from Mike's videos, plus dozens he's never shown on camera. Tap a chapter to see every recipe in it.

Take a look inside

Every page reads like Mike is standing next to you.

Not just steps — the why behind them. Why the tomatoes go in whole. Why you pull the fish a moment early. So it works the first time, and every time after.

  • Oven temp, time & servings up top
  • A short, plain ingredient list
  • Clear steps in big type
  • Mike’s swaps at the bottom

Recipe 3 · Sheet-Pan Dinners

Baked Cod with Cherry Tomatoes

A dinner that looks like it came out of a magazine — and takes twelve minutes.

Oven 400°F · 12 minutes · Serves one

What you need

  • 1 cod fillet
  • A handful of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 spoon of olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic, if there's one in the house
  • Salt and pepper

How to make it

Heat the oven to 400. Put the tomatoes on a small sheet pan whole and roll them in the oil. Whole matters: a cut tomato gives up its juice in the first two minutes and bakes dry. A whole one keeps everything sealed inside until the skin finally gives — and that's the exact moment your fish is ready…

Mike's swaps: No cod — any white fish, or a frozen fillet straight from the freezer with 5 minutes added. No cherry tomatoes — a drained can of whole tomatoes. No fresh garlic — a shake of garlic powder.

A lifetime in kitchens

Mike Cooks for Seniors

Meet your cook

Hi, I'm Michael Donovan.

I spent my whole working life in kitchens — big ones, loud ones, kitchens where dinner for three hundred had to land hot at seven o'clock sharp.

Now I cook for one, and I share it every week on my YouTube channel, Mike Cooks for Seniors. This book collects the dinners from my videos, plus dozens more I've never shown on camera.

“The recipe should bend to what's in your kitchen, not the other way around.”

Is this for you?

This book is for you if…

  • You live alone — or cook for yourself most nights
  • You’re tired of recipes that serve four and waste half
  • You want good, home-style food without a pile of dishes
  • Standing at the stove or sink is harder than it used to be
  • You’re watching salt, sugar, or want more protein
  • You like old favorites — goulash, Salisbury steak, liver & onions
  • You want to shop less and waste less money
  • You like clear, big print you can actually read

It also makes a thoughtful gift for a parent, grandparent or neighbor who lives on their own.

Questions

Good questions, plain answers

How do I get the book after I buy it?

Right after checkout on Gumroad you get a download link on screen and by email. The book is a PDF you can open on a computer, tablet or phone — and keep forever.

Can I print it?

Yes, please do. It’s a Large Print Edition made for the kitchen counter. Print a copy, spill things on it, write in the margins.

Is the print really large?

Yes. The whole book is set in big, clear type with one recipe per page, so you can read it from the counter without hunting for your glasses.

Do I need special equipment or fancy ingredients?

No. A small sheet pan, a pot, a skillet and a microwave cover everything. Ingredients are regular grocery-store items — and every recipe has swaps so you can use what you already have.

What if I’m cooking for two some nights?

Double everything and add a few minutes in the oven. That’s it.

I’m on a low-salt or diabetic diet. Is this for me?

There are full chapters for heart-healthy & low-sodium, diabetic-friendly & low-carb, and high-protein cooking. They follow general good-sense cooking — if your doctor has given you specific instructions, those come first.

Are these the same recipes from the YouTube channel?

The dinners from Mike’s videos are in here, plus dozens more he’s never shown on camera — all in one place, written out step by step.

Tonight's dinner can be one pan and twenty minutes away.

Cook from it in any order. Start with whatever makes you hungry.
